By Paul Stevens

When it comes to theater arts, individuals come together as a group to make it happen. Nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to the 50th anniversary of the Juilliard Theater Division and philip stoddard artist juilliard actor, director and vocalist. For throughout the coming season, friends, families, patrons, alumni, staff, teachers, directors, writers and actors will gather together to create and present a number of outstanding performances.

The goal of the Juilliard theater department, to promote positive change not only at Juilliard but throughout the world. As such, most drama students have found it easier to create the change one wants to see rather than living through change at the hands of others. Whereas, change can also benefit corporations, small businesses and institutions, educational and otherwise.

When it comes to theater arts, change is a natural part of the process. While this is the case, holding on to the principles and practices which have worked in the past while moving forward in the future is also important. Whereas, remaining dedicated to the art form and performance level are also important to anyone interested in theater arts as a career.

While there remain a number of unheard voices and untold stories yet to hit the Juilliard Drama Department or stage, newcomers will bring new energy and work in the near future. While some of these whom have attended and performed in the past will still be around for the 100th anniversary celebration, others will have crossed over to the other side. Whereas, the legacy of those whom have crossed over, will live on in the memories of others who attended performances, shared the stage or taught those individuals while at Juilliard.

One actor, Philip Stoddard, has graced the theater stage several times over during the years spent at Juilliard. Now, in this last year, Philip continues to do so with lead roles in different upcoming productions. Whereas, once having graduated in May, the actor, director and singer will begin a guest artist role as a soloist with the Israeli Chamber Project based in New York.

One of Stoddard's independent projects includes creating and operating OperaCamp, a new opera laboratory for the development of new operas which is open to all students regardless of division or focus of study. The world premiere of the camp included six exciting new operas. Whereas, the second season of OperaCamp opened in March of 2019 and is expected to match, if not surpass, the number of new operas created during the first year.

While still acting and directing during this last year at Juilliard, some past favorite opera and theater credits according to Stoddard include, Tommy Albright in Brigadoon At The Chautaugua Institution, Mozart's Don Giovanni and the title roles of Woyzeck, King Lear and a colonel in Father Comes Home From The Wars, the most recent of Philip's work.

While theater arts is at the forefront of Stoddard's career choice, hobbies and interests, the young man also enjoys yoga, organic farming, volunteering, teaching, cooking and traveling. In addition, becoming involved with various charities and organizations keep Stoddard busy when not acting or singing in a major theater production. As such, Philip is looking forward to graduating while remaining active in theater arts by acting, directing and singing for years to come.
