By Deborah Morgan

Nowadays, there are numerous genres of music being invented and reinvented to create a more unique and defined sound. Despite all the new artists seemingly popping out of nowhere, there are those who like sticking to tried and tested formulas, now often considered as classics. From the label itself, these are known to be songs and defining genres that withstand the test of time.

A genre that has been around since the late nineteenth century is defined by its unique sound and use of blues and ragtime elements. It was first crated by various musicians who belonged to the African American community based in New Orleans, but is universally enjoyed and performed by artists worldwide. In relation with this, stated below are some fascinating details on the Chuck Pafenbach trio.

The first member of this group is Jeff Helmer, who is most notably the director of Jazz in the University of Texas. Furthermore, he also teaches courses regarding the subject and is regarded as Professor Helmer by his many students. With regard to his work in this particular group, he plays the piano expertly and has been included in numerous nationwide competitions, where he was a finalist at least twice.

Their bass player is John Fregmen, another staff member of the same university in Texas. In school he teaches bass and how to improvise when playing, which has garnered much praise from audiences and students alike. By day he is a bass instructor and by night, he performs regularly at bars and composes music that has been used in many theme songs. These are most evident in American television shows and even blockbuster films.

Evidenced by their name, Chuck is the person credited for founding the band and bringing the three of them together to perform and record songs. He is the appointed drummer and is also a Jazz professor working for the same university. He was featured a few times in many Austin magazines and newspapers, who sited him as an excellent drummer in their area.

In 2002, the trio completed their first album called Introducing. It contained three covers of famous ballads released decades before. It garnered sufficient media attention locally and received a decent amount of radio play. This helped establish their musical career and helped them land more gigs and shows in their area and in neighboring towns.

High Life was released next, three years after the first one was created. This time, it contained ten songs, seven more compared to their previous work. Sam Seifert is credited with helping these artists in terms of production and creating a more polished sound. Their sound still contained elements of Jazz but experimented slightly with other genres as well, as evidenced in their rendition of Footprints by Wayne Shorter.

Jazz Dance is most notable for its use of La Danse by an artist called Henri Matisse. Ann Pinion is responsible for choosing the art, who has stated that she believed the painting fully captured the essence of this album. All the tracks were recorded at the Bismeaux, a popular studio in Austin. A remarkable rendition is Moon Dance, originally performed by Van Morrison.

In two thousand eleven, they released their latest work and called it World Beat. This time, it contained nine tracks and were covers of popular songs. Will Harrison stepped in to help Sam with production, creating a more defined and polished sound that the previous albums lacked. Jose Mata is credited with its album art, who used a simplistic design to showcase the new album.
